Joseph Smith, Sr.’s Dream
September 20, 2007
This drawing depicts a dream that Joseph Smith, Sr. reportedly had in 1811, and that Joseph Smith, Jr. almost certainly grew up hearing about. It strongly resembles a prominent portion of the Book of Mormon. Skeptics of the Book of Mormon’s historicity see Joseph Smith Sr.’s dream as an element of Joseph Smith’s personal environment appearing in the Book of Mormon. Believers generally find ways to avoid that conclusion. For an overview of the issue, click here.

Love the interpretation - and I believe I can see into your reasoning. Great choices.

Is that the angel Moroni statue on the corner of the building? Whenever I think of Lehi’s dream I sometimes imagine the new LDS conference center across from Temple Square during General Conference.

I always think it interesting when the enlightened use the term “reportedly,” without any documentation. It is very convenient, not to mention subjective. I have reportedly heard that you are an idiot. Does that make it so? Neither does anyone who “reportedly” heard something.

Gomer,
The term “reportedly” means somebody reported the fact. In this case Lucy Mack Smith reported the fact. Her book contains the best information available on the subject, as far as I know. Please feel free to speak up if you have better information.
As the explanation above suggests, follow the provided link (to the FAIR Wiki) in order to learn more about Joseph Smith, Sr.’s dream.

The actual pages of Lucy Mack Smith’s book depicting Joseph Smith Sr.’s dream are available through the BYU website at http://patriot.lib.byu.edu/u?/NCMP1847-1877,1980. Read it along side of Lehi’s dream (http://scriptures.lds.org/en/1_ne/8) and see how striking are the simularities.

I really like this one — is it going to be done as an oil painting as well?

Of course it can’t be proven! You can’t prove something is not true, you can never go at a false story from every angle; thats why we give up “Proving” JosephS mith made it all up and at the same time give up on proving the same with Santa Clause!
